CE QU’ON NE NOUS APPREND PAS EN COURS D’ANGLAIS (ALORS QU’ON DEVRAI!)

Il m’est arrive une peite histoire il y a cela quelques jours et j’ai pense qu’il serai rigolo de vous le faire partager, vous allez comprendre rapidement comme les joies du langage et les richesses culturelles sont infinies. J’en aurai pu perdre mon job !!! / Few days ago, a funny story has happened to me and I thought it would be nice to share it with you. You ‘ll understand that languages and cultural richness have no limit. i could have had lost my job !!!
Apres ces deux annee, je pensais bien me debrouiller en anglais, j’ai pu ameliorer la grammaire, le vocabulaire ainsi que la prononciation. J’apprend encore de temps a autre de nouvelles expressions. Comme je le dis souvent, le voyage c’est l’ecole de la vie et je suis toujours content d’ enrichir mes connaissances /I think I have my English down pretty well. Vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation has improved a lot the past two years. I still come across new words and phrases from time to time, which I usually welcome as a new lesson.Like I often say, travelling is the school of life and I’m always happy to learn.
Pas TOUJOURS en fait… on se retrouve parfois dans des situations qu’on préfèrerai bien eviter / Well, not ALWAYS … sometime we find ourselves in situations that we would prefer to avoid.
Je viens de commencer mon nouveau travail de serveur dans un cafe a Port Fairy. On nous demande de porter des vetements noir. J’ai donc passe un temps fou a chercher ma taille dans les OPshop (vetements d’occasion) tellement je suis maigre (je devrai dire mince et svelte) compare aux australiens. j’allais laisser tomber quand je trouve finalement un T-shirt avec inscrit sur le devant ”WOODSTOCK”.ca va le faire / In my new job in Port Fairy, I work as a waiter in a cafe. We are required to wear a black tee shirt, and as my size can be difficult to find, I spent ages looking through shops for the right fit. Close to giving up, I finally found a black tee shirt,with some writng on the front, it read “WOODSTOCK”. that would do.
Pensant que le T-shirt faisait reference au Festival bien connu de tous, je l’achete et le porte aux travail le jour d’apres /Assuming it was refering to the famous Woodstock music festival, I bought it and wore it to work the next day.
Le jour suivant, mon manager me prend a part et me dit qu’il a besoins de me parler. Il me dit qu’il a recu des plaintes de certains clients qu’ ils lui ont dit que mon T’shirt n’etait pas trop approprie. Un peu confus, je commence a penser que les australiens doivent avoir une dents contre cet evenement genial passe a New York en 1969. / The following day, my manager said he needed to speak to me. He told me he’s been getting complaints from customers, that they were saying they didn’t feel my tee shirt was appropriate. Confused, I started to wonder if Australians had something against awesome New York music festivals from 1969…
Mon manager m’explique que ce n’est pas le devant du t-shirt qui est le problem mais plutot ce qu’il y a ecrit derriere. je le regarde avec les yeux vides. Je savais ce qu’il y avait d’ecrit derriere mais ne voyais pas de probleme avec ca : / My manager explained it wasn’t the front of the shirt that was the problem, it was what was written on the back. I looked at him blankly. I knew what it said on the back, but couldn’t see a problem with it :
“CRACK A GIANT WOODY”
C’est a ce moment que ma traduction n’est pas evidente mais je me lance quand meme. “WOODSTOCK” est une marque de bourbon et ‘Crack a giant woody” a un double sens, le premier est le fait d’ouvrir la canette (maniere virile de le dire),et le deuxieme sens, au risque d’en choquer certains, signifie ”avoir une grosse erection” (encore plus viril). / Now my Aussie friends will already understand, but for the other readers who don’t know, let me tell you what my manager had to explain to me…
“crack a giant woody” means to have a big erection
Vous l’aurez donc devine, j’ai effectivement passer une journee entiere a servire des cafes dans ce commerce bien repute du village portant un T shirt encourageant la levee de chapiteau, le barreau de chaise, la levee du colosse, la gaule, la trique (la langue francaise est formidable !!!!), bref vous appelerez ca comme vous voudrez / So I’m sure you would have already guess, yes. I spent an entire day walking around a busy cafe wearing a shirt that recommended getting an erection!
Je ne sais pas si les hommes dans le cafe ont suivi mes instructions / Not sure if the men in the cafe followed my instructions or not.
Ah, et quand j’ai du insister pour garder mon job , je ne savais toujours pas ce qu’il voulais dire / Oh, and I managed to keep my job, but only after insisting I had no idea what it had meant!
Je cherche toujours un t’shirt a ma taille … /still looking for a black tee shirt in my size…
